Vinted Members Express Anger Regarding Size Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has updated its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all users about the change.
Online Platforms Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with similar services.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Modifications
Before the change, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Required Changes
A different user, based in Derby, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial after experiencing income reduction," she stated.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.
It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
